About Senna - The Miracle Herb

What is Senna?

Senna is a warmth-loving crop that requires abundant sunlight, making India an ideal location for its cultivation. This FDA-approved non-prescription drug contains glycosides (sennosides) which work as a natural laxative to ease bowel movement.

The plant is also used to treat skin diseases, especially acne and ringworms, and promotes excretion of toxins that contribute to fatigue and ill-health.

Cultivation in India

Senna is cultivated in Gujarat and Rajasthan, where the sandy soil increases productivity. It's grown as an early summer (February-March) or early winter (October-November) crop.

Under ideal conditions, 15 quintal of dry leaves and 7 quintal of pods per hectare is considered a good harvest. The shrub normally grows up to a height of three feet, has delicate leaves and bears oblong pods.
